8 Bizarre TV Pilots That Were Doomed To Fail

4. Area 57

Alright, now here's one that's a bit more modern. Area 57 was supposed to air in 2007 on NBC. It centred on an alien living at a military base in the middle of the Nevada Desert. Much like Poochinski, there were supposed to be fart jokes. In their own press release, NBC detailed the alien as having €œfoul extraterrestrial bodily emissions€ €“ so you can already get a sense of what kind of show this was going to be. Paul Reubens €“ famous for his portrayal of Pee-wee Herman €“ played the alien. Other than Reubens, the most notable actor to appear in the pilot was Jane Lynch (well-known for her extensive television career including the likes of Glee and Two And A Half Men). Lynch played Irene Maloof, a military official who worked at the base. In the end, there just wasn't enough room in our hearts (or the hearts of the NBC executives who had to sit through the pilot) for a farting extraterrestrial.
