8 Creepiest Twin Peaks Moments
2. The Orchid's Curse
Whilst most of the creep factor in Twin Peaks is rooted in the supernatural, one of the most deeply affecting moments comes in the real world when sensitive floriculturist Harold Smith is betrayed by another Palmer he thought he could trust.
When he wasn't tending to Orchids, Harold kept good company in Laura Palmer, and managed to retrieve her secret diary. This becomes an object of desire for Maddy, Donna and James, who use his shut-in nature against him, exchanging affection for the truth.
Harold finally snaps when he figures out the betrayal, and brings a garden instrument to his face, scratching a wound into his cheek. This is one of few tragic characters in the show who dies as a result of morally ambiguous intentions. Another scream from Maddy truncates the madness as Harold tells them Laura's darkest secret... She was unfortunate enough to know her killer.
After a number of occult scenes, it's almost refreshing to experience some mortal creepiness in Twin Peaks. We later find Harold hanging in his greenhouse, his suicide note being the only trace of his grand knowledge about Laura's demise.
