Sheryl Lee's Maddy also takes a starring role as she reflects the trauma of her situation in her performance, as Leland succumbs to his possession and murders his relative. This is all set to the tone of a broken record, reinforcing the idea that 'It Is Happening Again'
The positioning of BOB's mask over Leland's face and his terrifying expression in the mirror sends chills up the spine. Leland's white-gloved dash towards Maddy with a great grin on his face sets the tone for her almost theatrical demise, as David Lynch expertly shows that you don't need a monster to do horror justice, when humans can elicit the same nightmare-inducing effect.
