7. Broadchurch
Broadchurch is a British ITV crime serial that ran from 2013 -2017, starring Tennant alongside Oscar winning Olivia Colman. With the same current showrunner and writer of Doctor Who, Chris Chibnall, the first series follows two detectives who uncover a variety of mysteries after a young boy is murdered from within a Dorset based seaside town of the same name.
The series overall is quite dark toned and becomes addictive to watch, given the twists and turns round every corner of the investigation. It is a binge watch worthy show with only 8 episodes in the first instalment. Tennant and Colman as the detective pair create a sombre performance and the writing is insightfully clever, with each member of the town being given a back story that all fit in to the narrative well. It discusses a range of themes and the effects that the murder has had on the location and the people that reside there. Other Doctor Who stars including Arthur Darvill and Jodie Whittaker also make appearances as major roles.
The third series concluded with a major finale and has not been renewed.
