8 Deleted Scenes That Explain Confusing Doctor Who Moments
1. Defeating The Fisher King (Before The Flood)
The Mystery
The underrated two-part story Under the Lake/Before the Flood concludes with the Doctor blowing up a dam to flood the surrounding area, an act that also drowns the monster of the week - the really cool-looking Fisher King.
But with a name like "Fisher King", doesn't it sound like this creature would thrive underwater, rather than dying? It's not really clear if the Doctor knows whether the drowning idea will work or not, because there isn't a scene where he discovers that this would be a good way to defeat the Fisher King.
So... considering that the monster's name makes it sound like it would be able to survive underwater, does the Doctor actually know that drowning the Fisher King will kill it, or was this just a "hope that it works" sort of scenario?
The Deleted Scene
Cut from Before the Flood was quite a lengthy conversation between the Doctor and a side character called Prentis. In this scene, the Doctor asks Prentis about the Fisher King's weakness, and Prentis replies that the villain comes from a barren world and is capable of being drowned.
This lets the Doctor know that drowning the Fisher King is a good way to beat it. The very fact that he had to ask Prentis makes it clear that he didn't already know this for sure.
