8 Doctor Who Moments The Creators Don't Like

6. Jon Pertwee Wasn't Pleased With His Redesigned TARDIS Console Room

Every actor who plays the Doctor has to accept that lots of things will change throughout their tenure. They might get a new companion or two, a new sonic screwdriver, a new costume, or even a new head writer: this is just how Doctor Who works, and how it will always work.

That being said... the actors aren't always going to like these changes.

Tom Baker famously hated the question marks on his collar, and another example of a leading man disliking an aesthetic change can be found during the Jon Pertwee years, with the actor not being overly fond of his redesigned TARDIS console room.

During a DVD commentary for Death To The Daleks, Richard Leyland - who was involved in the production of this serial - claims that Pertwee "didn't like" the TARDIS console room set very much, and that, overall, he "didn't like change" as an actor.

Now, Jon Pertwee is awesome and the Third Doctor is one of the greats, but if you don't like change as an actor... then you probably shouldn't sign on for Doctor Who.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
