8 Doctor Who Stars With Oscar Gold

4. Olivia Colman

It's bizarre that Olivia Colman has been in Doctor Who, but in such a small role. She might technically be playing the villain, Patient Zero in the form of a mother and her twins, but she's overshadowed by this big introduction to Matt Smith as the Doctor. Now that she's a bona fide Oscar winner, it's unlikely that she'll be returning to the series any time soon. Even at the time of her casting, Colman was emerging as something of a national treasure, and director of The Eleventh Hour, Adam Smith decided to just take a shot at casting her. It paid off, but it will be a shame if this is her only role in the series. One-night only Timeless Doctor anyone?

Colman missed out on the Best Actress Oscar for her incredible performance in The Lost Daughter at this year's awards, but she was awarded a few years earlier for her role in The Favorite. The Yorgos Lanthimos directed costume drama was a terrific showcase for Colman's talents. It was a layered and affecting portrayal of vulnerabilty, sapphic lust, and repulsive privilege as she brought life to Queen Anne.

Maybe the 14th Doctor's due a run-in with Queen Anne somewhere down the line? We can only hope.
