3. Star Wars (1977)
You could argue for many reasons that this shouldn't exactly be included in this list. First of all, it has its own animated TV show, and another terrible looking animated TV show in the works by Seth Green (who I love as both a Buffy and Family Guy fan). It also has had a live action television show in preproduction for many years, however this is unlikely to see the light of day anytime soon, and from what I've read about the show (for which there has apparently already been 50 episodes written) it doesn't exactly sound like the Star Wars film I have been hoping for for a very, very long time. Obviously you couldn't touch up or reboot any of the original characters for the show (unless of course as actual cameos from the actors) because Star Wars fans are very vocal, and recasting Luke or any of the others would be the death of this show. However, Star Wars' universe is vast... with many alien planets and a long history of wars and great adventures already explored in the many video games and comic books. The best bet would be to cast a similar although completely different set of heroes, and like many TV shows, have the show for the most part (due in part to budgetary reasons) set on a space ship like the Millennium Falcon. It has worked many times before on TV and under the name Star Wars would certainly work again. The biggest complaint I have with the proposed live action television series is that apparently Jedi's won't feature all that much, if even at all (at least, not as central characters) and lightsabers won't have a huge part to play either. For me, the coolest thing about the Star Wars universe, and the thing that separates it from the likes of Star Trek for example are those very two things: Jedi's and lightsabers, so not including them is lunacy. How I envisage a Star Wars live action series working is to basically take everything that made Firefly as awesome a show as it was, and add to that aliens, Jedi mind powers, and lightsabers... that to me sounds like the most perfect thing a TV series could ever be. Sure, the reason Firefly failed to an extent, and also the reason the Star Wars live action series has yet to be made is all about the budget. To create a cool Star Wars TV series you would need a lot of money. However, in keeping most of the action on a spaceship, with the occasional exotic locations that will need to be used to show other planets, I don't see why this show would cost all that money to make. It was done in the 60's with Star Trek so surely it would be easy enough to do now. Plus, what TV network would really turn down a Star Wars television show... I can't imagine many people wouldn't at least tune in for the first episode.
