4. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
TV loves its fantasy shows, but at this point in time they are starting to become pretty repetitive and boring. Vampires are overpopulating our screens, and once the current Twilight phase has passed people will want to latch onto other fantastical, supernatural characters. We already have Werewolves on TV, we have Zombies, and we have had many shows featuring Witches in the past. How about a show featuring a hugely popular, completely unique monster character, who has just enough of the emo charm to hook teenage girls and teenage boys into the show. Edward Scissorhands is just the guy for the job. The story of Edward Scissorhands is a little like a more teen friendly version of Frankenstein. Considering Frankenstein is one of the least used characters on television (though many things resembling him appeared in Buffy), it's about time a monster like this got its own show. Edward Scissorhands is a robot created by an inventor who had intended to make a loving human-like boy however died before he could give his invention human like hands- instead leaving him with monstrous "scissor hands" which make it very difficult for him to connect to another person. However, his skills with his hands which include ice sculpturing, hair dressing and hedge trimming are enough to impress his suburban neighbors. I could see this show becoming a huge success on a network like the CW. Teenagers love their strange romance stories, and there is nothing stranger than the romance story in Edward Scissorhands which could really be fleshed out well on a TV show. There is zero chance that Johnny Depp would want to appear again (although he is reprising the role in a Family Guy episode) however there are so many talented young men in both film and TV currently that new blood would be needed and wouldn't be at all difficult to find. Depp became famous due to starring in a TV show, so maybe this show could launch the next Johnny Depp. You'd need to probably create an alternative storyline unrelated to the film but completely inspired by it, and of course you'd probably also need to update this to a more modern setting. This would probably involve a lot of showing Edward in a school environment, which would be difficult but with the right vision, not impossible to pull off. It would also be both funny and heartbreaking to see Edward attempt to use the Internet or text. TV loves its dark dramas, it has always loved a good teenage romance story, and quirky is becoming a big thing at the moment, so why not combine all three? If Tim Burton could be even a tiny but involved, this would be perfection. I probably wouldn't watch the show otherwise, but I know a lot of people who probably would.

I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E).
My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
