8 Great Movies That Should Be TV Shows

2. The Incredibles (2004)

Of all of Pixar's movies, The Incredibles is the film I have most wanted to see a sequel too. As a superhero story, it is actually strange that this film doesn't have one, especially considering the success it was. Although I think we are a few good years away from this being an achievable possibility, I would love to see The Incredibles as a television series- that is of course if the animation is up to scratch and near enough to the same level of quality a Pixar feature would be. The Incredibles is unique to superhero movies because it features really relatable, real people... and better still shows a superhero family, with parents who worry about normal things like their children doing well at school and their own problems with being middle aged. A recent TV series tried to replicate what The Incredibles started entitled No Ordinary Family, but this show was an epic fail, most likely because very rarely do shows get super powers on TV right, especially in live action. Having been pining for a sequel since its release, I have had a lot of time to think about what I'd like to see from a future film, but the same could easily be applied to a television show. The genius of the original show was the idea of watching aging superheroes, an idea that is rarely explored, if ever in film. Obviously, you'd need this TV series to be a sequel to the original film (0r at the very least a prequel) and created by Pixar, ideally with all the voice cast still attached (Holly Hunter- I love you). However, seeing as we have already seen how Mr Incredible and Elastigirl adjust to growing up, ideally I'd want the series to skip forward about 15 or so years, so we can explore how both Violet and Dash have adjusted to and changed in their adult lives. Seeing them dealing with their own families whilst still attempting to be superheroes on the side would be an interesting dynamic. Also, seeing Mr Incredible and Elastigirl aged even more would give them more issues to complain about. It would also be great to see a superhero grandparent on TV wouldn't it? Something that I considered for any film sequel would be to make Jack-Jack (the youngest child) somewhat of an antagonist in his teenage years. The end of The Incredibles movie suggested that The Incredibles had now become a major crime fighting team... but obviously Jack Jack was too young to be involved. Seeing as in the future Mr Incredible and Elastigirl will probably be too old to fight crime, and Dash and Violet will have lives of their own, they probably split up their super group before Jack Jack could have become involved. This, in my idea, would lead him to become somewhat bitter and resentful, and fall into the wrong crowd at superhero school. The family would have to join together once again to stop Jack Jack going down the wrong path, and getting taken in by villains who want to exploit his powers for evil. This obviously is just one of many possible directions the series could go in. A straight continuation of the film would also work.

I am a recent Screenwriting for Film and Television graduate from the UK. I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
