8 Greatest Series Revivals In TV History

8. 24: Live Another Day

Season 8 of 24 ended rather frustratingly with Jack Bauer on the run from the US government, denied the happy ending with his family glimpsed in that season opener. It was frustrating because it gave no end to the show, denying audiences the chance to see Jack live happily ever after or - more realistically - die in the line of duty. All because there was the hope of a 24 film that never materialised. But just when audiences thought 24 would be another one of those show's who's quality and tired story-telling tailed off towards the end, Fox resurrected the show for a 12-episode series Live Another Day, which proved to be one of the best seasons yet. By halving the episode length, the show was able to be more focused in its approach. There was still the old cliches, like the government mole, but it worked because audiences had had a break from the world of Jack Bauer and because the characters were so good. There were some genuinely tense moments, like the drone strike and the "death" of the President, and the return of some familiar faces, mixed with the new, made 24 an event again. The ending was certainly dark and tragic, but audiences still finished with a smile on their faces. If there is no more 24, then fans could certainly say it went out on one last hurrah.
