2. Doctor Who
In terms of ingenuity in bringing a character back from the dead, the Doctor's ability to regenerate is indisputably number one. Each look and personality is different by he is still essentially the same Time Lord. Regeneration allowed the show to continue once William Hartnell became too ill to play the Doctor, allowing the show to reach its fiftieth year on the 23rd November 2013. But even his ability to regenerate couldn't save the show from cancellation in 1989. After a failed attempt at a reboot/continuation in the 1996 TV movie, Doctor Who was resurrected in spectacular style in 2005. A new Doctor, companion, show runner and format, Christopher Ecclestone's first series hooked in viewers and led to a quick renewal for series two and beyond. Even the immediate replacement of Eccleston with David Tennant didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the fans; it got bigger and, by the time Matt Smith rolled onto the scene, Doctor Who was a global success. The 50th anniversary celebrations and world tour to launch Series 6 with Peter Capaldi in the lead were proof of that. Not only was Doctor's who resurrection a success, it made the show bigger than ever; it's impossible to not imagine the show on our screens.
