While arguably the resurrection of Doctor Who was a bigger event, its cancellation in 1989 didn't leave audiences with lots of unanswered questions. The X-Files ended with many story lines unresolved and the follow up movie, The X-Files: I Want To Believe offered no such resolution, except to offer Mulder and Scully a pardon by the FBI. There had been rumours of a third movie for years, but once 2012 passed - the date of the supposed alien invasion revealed in the series finale The Truth - that hope began to die. The show's resurrection for six new episodes is that chance to bring closure that fans so desperately want. For nine years we learned about killer bees, black oil, abductions, shady government conspiracies, experimentation, cloning, super soldiers and shape-shifting bounty hunters, all leading up to that eventual colonisation of Earth. While a large majority of the arc was resolved, particularly around the underrated Season 6, there are questions still out there that deserved to be answered. There have many attempts to replicate the success of The-X Files, some more successful than others, with everything from Fringe to Supernatural owing something to this TV phenomenon. Now is the chance for The X-Files to come back on an almighty high, with a mix of the monster-of-the-week and mythology episodes that it does best. What TV shows are in need of a proper resurrection?
