3. Dakota Blue Richards

In our only visit to the third generation of Skins, we find an actor who had already tasted some success before appearing in the show.

The first episode of Season 5 focuses on Franky Fitzgerald, played by Dakota Blue Richards. Frankie is a "tomboy", dressing atypically and constantly battling to fit in with her more feminine friends.

Franky is plagued by a troubled past, including incidents of severe bullying in her previous school. She is also the adopted daughter of two gay military servicemen, which brings a whole other load of complications to her life.

Richards had first become famous at the age of 12. She starred alongside Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman in the big screen adaptation of Phillip Pullman's The Golden Compass in 2007, a role for which she was applauded. Sadly, the film did not receive the same response.

After her role as Lyra, Richards starred in a number of films and TV shows with her most recent small screen appearance being in the ITV drama, Beecham House, in 2019.

Richards' performance in Skins showed that she could handle a more complex role and, at the age of just 25, there is still a very bright future ahead of Franky, with or without her Alethiometer.
