8 Huge Stars Who Were In Skins

2. Dev Patel

It's hard to believe that Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-nominated Dev Patel's first ever role was as the pork-eating, drug-taking, naked-getting Muslim, Anwar Kharral.

Anwar was a central character in the show's first two seasons. He grappled with his religion and what that meant for his relationship with gay best friend, Maxxie, before becoming embroiled in a toxic relationship with Sketch in Season 2.

Patel auditioned for the role of Anwar at his mother's behest - despite having a science exam the next day. He'll be glad that he listened to his mum, because what followed is astonishing.

Patel was cast as the lead in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire just one year after his debut in Skins. This role put him on the map in a big way, earning him a Best Actor nomination at the 2008 BAFTAs.

Patel would then go onto star in several major movies, including The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Hotel Mumbai, The Personal History of David Copperfield, and Lion, for which he received his Oscar nod.

He was also in The Last Airbender, but the less said about that, the better.

Dev is one of Skins biggest success stories, because the show literally made him. He and the writers should be incredibly proud.
