8 Little Known Tics In Jon Bernthal's Performance That Made MCU's Punisher Awesome
5. He Actually Reacts To Violence

Without focusing too heavily on what came before (again), there was a trend with older Punisher films to feature highly choreographed action sequences where violence was inconsequential, heavily stylised, and even sometimes irreverent.
That couldn't be further from the truth when it comes to the Netflix series. Bernthal alone shouldn't be praised for this - all the cast and crew should - but there is an extra dimension gained by his acting ability.
In most action films, particularly in recent times, shootouts are mostly depicted in the John Wick mould; they're almost like a ballet, but the Punisher takes a different approach. It's raw, less-refined, and more human, and it lends these sequences an organic feel - almost like an improvised street routine.
How does this relate to Bernthal? Well, by now, you're probably familiar with the guttural scream Frank Castle utters in stressful situations. He feels every bullet, every blow, every stab, but he also reacts when he's the one inflicting harm. Point being, violence is never treated as something insignificant, but instead something that takes a physical and mental toll on our lead.
