8 Little Known Tics In Jon Bernthal's Performance That Made MCU's Punisher Awesome
3. You Know When He Let's His Guard Down

After the death of his family, Frank Castle isn't exactly the most outgoing of characters. He effectively walls himself off in the comics, maintaining only a professional relationship with perennial 'guy in the chair' Micro and steering clear of romantic entanglements, and those other heroes who would disagree with his methods.
But sometimes, things just happen, and when it comes to the Netflix show... they happen a lot. There, he has his defences, but overtime, it's possible to pinpoint the moment where he truly begins to let his guard down, and feel human again.
You can see it when he meets Karen in Daredevil, and you can also see it when he's with Agent Madani and Amy Bendix in Season 2. It's times like these you remember all that Frank once had, and how desperate he is to make sure he can't feel that loss all over again.
His posture switches, and a small smile begins to crack. Of course the writers themselves also deserve praise, but Bernthal's ability to sell that change is uniquely brilliant.
