8 Reasons Why How I Met Your Dad Is A Terrible Idea

2. It's The Very Definition Of Uncreative

Speak Hear See Whilst there could maybe be an argument made if they were basing it round the perspective and backstory of the actual mother from HIMYM (it could involve clever continuity skills and would demand an impressive attention to detail to make sure the plots lined up), the fact that it is not going to be her story essentially makes it entirely the same show just with a different cast and a slightly different title. Same writers, same story, same narrative frame. As we've already covered, the writers seem to have the contradictory notion that How I Met Your Dad will be stand on its own but that is just not possible without an original and creative concept. It's not even like CSI migrating to Miami and New York because not only is How I Met Your Dad going to be set in the same city as HIMYM, but the CSI shows rely mainly on their independent episodic format as opposed to a series-long story arc that requires progression through a predominant amount of the episodes. The very fact that HIMYM and its upcoming spin-off are going to share exactly the same premise in exactly the same way just screams unoriginal. Someone's hitting copy and paste and if it's successful, we could be looking at a new era of replicated sitcoms. Gossip Guy or Two And Half Women anyone?
