8 Reasons The Walking Dead Season 5 Is The Best So Far

5. Moral Values Are Becoming Increasingly Twisted

From the beginning of the first season moral questions have always played a role in the decision making of the group. With the breakdown of law and order it's inevitable that humanity would slide towards a dog eat dog world in which only the strongest survive. Still, Rick's guiding influence over the group has always acted as something of a restraining influence on unchecked aggression, and there's always been a feeling that some moral code is guiding their actions. A degree of ruthlessness has been creeping in for some time but with season 5 it looks as if we might be set for something of a character transformation as Rick's sense of morality becomes increasingly fractured. Rick isn't the only character who is developing in this direction - another fascinating and revealing scene came in episode 1, where Tyreese brutally pounds Terminal resident Martin to a pulp. It's a tense, dramatic moment for a character conflicted about his ability to kill and further suggests how much the strain of their circumstances is fracturing the psyche of the group members.
