5. It Deals With Real World Social Issues

Age discrimination, racial profiling, Superstore addresses it all during the run of the show. The struggles of retail workers and the working-class in general are put forward by the show to shine a light on the lack of equality found in everyday situations.

When Amy Sosa becomes the manager of the store, she realises that her salary is over $119,000 per year, which is around 5x more than she was making before. Thus the show really put forward the divide between managers and floor-workers, as well as exploring the issue of unionisation and health coverage.

It is a credit to the show that the hard-line issues in the common workplace, such as a supermarket, are covered with a stark dose of reality but in a way that subverts the usual preachiness that can go hand-in-hand with a comedy series that is trying to be a warrior for social justice.

Superstore as a wider show makes a fine point on social issues that face a common work-force, and never allows them to stray too far from the comedic tone of it all once their point has been made.
