8 Reasons You're Allowed To Hate Daryl From The Walking Dead

2. He Often Affects Other Character's Storylines In A Bad Way

Daryl, as fans of the comic book know, was a character written specifically for the television show. He did not exist in the comics. And since the creators of the TV show like to use the comic book as a working template, they constantly have to figure out ways to include Daryl's character in the storylines. One way they do this is by swapping other characters out of the storyline in favor of Daryl. For instance, Chad Coleman (who played Tyreese), believes Reedus' awkward placement in the series ultimately lead to his own character's demise. In the comics, Tyreese was Rick's go-to guy. In the series, however, that falls on Daryl. He also overshadows what should have been a defining moment for Lauren Cohan's character, Maggie. Following the death of Maggie's sister, Beth, there's a graphic scene in the comics that has Maggie so distraught that she attempts suicide. In the show, however, a lot of the pain and grief is shouldered by Daryl, with Maggie barely getting any screen time. It's such a weird absence that many viewers wondered if Maggie even remembered she had a sister, or if she was so entrenched in her relationship with Glenn that she couldn't be bothered to mourn. Daryl is constantly stealing thunder.
