Now, before we begin, let's just rip the plaster off quick and get this out of the way. Maybe don't watch this show if you're the type of person who'll get very upset not getting closure from a cancelled series, because you get two seasons of Patriot and that's it. That's on you, Amazon! Learn how to market your damn shows properly!

Anyway, Patriot follows CIA agent John Tavner as he attempts to prevent Iran from going nuclear. Of course, there are a few obstacles along the way. One is the fact that he's operating under NOC (non-official cover) meaning he has zero safety nets should he fail. Secondly, fate, for whatever reason, really doesn't want him to succeed. Finally, everyone surrounding him are, to put it bluntly, complete and utter f***wits. Fair warning, Patriot is dense. You will get lost, that's a fact, but unlike most shows that isn't a bad thing. You're supposed to be as lost as John feels.

Patriot's vibe is pretty tough to sum up. It's equal parts spy-thriller and farce. Imagine James Bond. Now imagine he actually suffers from the PTSD that he would obviously have. Also imagine that he has no interest in being a secret agent anymore, in fact he never wanted to be one, he just wants to be a folk singer. However, the songs he writes reference his very sensitive assignments in far too much detail. Honestly, that still doesn't do this show justice at all.

Johnny sat by the fire, idly swirling his brandy, flicking through the pages of War and Peace, wondering whether it was pretentious to write his bio in the third person.
