8 Shows To Fill That Mr. Robot Shaped Hole In Your Life

2. Humans

Alas, we've found ourselves at another series that unfortunately saw the chopping block all too soon. Humans is set in a not-too-distant future where synthetic humans, or 'synths', have become as commonplace as mobile phones are now. However, although most synths are entirely subservient, there are a number who possess autonomy thanks to it being imbued in them by their creator. If you were a fan of Detroit: Become Human, then this is the show for you.

The overarching plot regarding the free-will-having synths is thrilling - from their struggle to remain undetected to their attempts to gain civil rights. What's even more fascinating though is seeing how the human characters interact with synths, and their attitudes towards them. This ranges from outright animosity, to actually preferring synth company to humans.

Humans isn't a hollow sci-fi show either, as it poses a number questions regarding the ethics surrounding artificial intelligence, what exactly it is that defines us or anything else as human, as well as questions of prejudice that really resonate all the more in today's political climate - which makes it all the sadder we won't see it again.

Johnny sat by the fire, idly swirling his brandy, flicking through the pages of War and Peace, wondering whether it was pretentious to write his bio in the third person.
