8 Silly TV Plot Conveniences Made Possible By Utterly Stupid Writing

6. Robot Doctor Decoy - Doctor Who

There are so, so, so many examples of bad writing in Doctor Who, but we've settled for this one in particular. A few series back the Doctor apparently dies in the first episode, getting shot by someone in an Astronaut costume in front of his wife and companions. His death is confirmed later on when a database containing all dates from the past and future listed the day of the shooting as the Doctor's death, meaning there's no chance it was anybody else (a problem we will get to shortly). However, a robot is introduced mid-series that can take on the appearance of any living thing. At the time some speculated this might be used to fake the Doctor's death, but fans quickly rejected the idea as stupid. Then, when it came to the end of the series, this speculation turned out to be true. The robot takes the form of the Doctor and gets shot so that our hero's enemies think him dead and he can henceforth do whatever he likes. Not only is this an example of unbelievably stupid writing used to further the plot, it also doesn't make sense. The Doctor does so much after this event, including regenerating (only once so far), that any creature/robot/database with vague time-travel abilities should know immediately that the death was fake. Consequently, it is both unrealistic and unfair, making no sense and insulting viewers with its blatant stupidity.
