8 Silly TV Plot Conveniences Made Possible By Utterly Stupid Writing
5. Return Of Bobby - Dallas
Come on kids, sing along with us! Everyone knows what Dallas did, even those (like myself) who know literally nothing else about the show, so let's get it over with. On the show, the writers killed off a main character. It was a big moment for the show, displaying a level of bravery still rare to be seen on American television, giving it an edge that many of its competitors lacked. Then came the shower scene. A long while after the character died, an episode had a young woman wake up in bed to the noise of a shower going. Getting up, she walked into the bathroom, confused as to who could be in her house, pulled back the shower-curtain and oh-my-gosh there he was, Mr. Dead-Guy having a shower. We don't mean in a scary Stephen King way you understand - that would have been a very different direction for the show to go in. No, it was the guy who should have been dead, who, after seeing the worried girl in the bathroom with him, gave her a hug and said: "Hey, hey, what's wrong? Don't worry, it was just a bad dream, all a bad dream." Actually that probably wasn't the exact wording, yet it gets the gist across alright. What was meant by this heart-warming scene was that the many hours of television seen between the characters death and his appearance in the shower had all been a dream, making it utterly inconsequential and a waste of time to even watch.
Oldfield is a journalist, reviewer, and amateur comic-book writer (meaning he's yet to be published). He's a man who'll criticise anything, even this biog, which he thinks is a bit crap.
