8 Spooky Predictions Ricky Gervais Got Right In Extras

1. Kate Winslet Wins An Oscar For A Holocaust Movie

The Reader
Paramount Pictures

The Prediction: In the performance that pretty much made the show - especially in the US - Kate Winslet was reimagined as a filth-spouting, Oscar-hungry actress who admits the only reason she is appearing in the film the episode features is because appearing in a film about the Holocaust "guarantees an Oscar."

In Real Life: Jump forward three and a half years and Winslet picked up an Oscar for doing just that, for The Reader. In a brilliant moment of foreshadowing, the exceptional Winslet called her own career trajectory, though she definitely didn't only appear in The Reader because of its subject matter and the potential for Awards.

Proving the accidental mantra, The Reader beat Revolutionary Road to an Oscar, despite the assumption that the latter would win. Gervais would later reference his own prediction at the Golden Globes ceremony that cuased so much controversy when the audience simply didn't understand the spirit of his jokes.

Bantering with the audience, he congratulated Winslet on her win: "Well done Winslet. I told you, do a Holocaust movie and the awards come, didn'€™t I?"
