Although Olivia Colman was tragically underused in her guest role as 'Mother' in 2010's The Eleventh Hour, she more than made up for it throughout Broadchurch's first series - and she's got the BAFTA for Best Actress to prove it. She managed to steal the show with her portrayal of Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller and her performance throughout the series - and in particular its final episode - firmly established herself as a formidable on screen force to be reckoned with and one of the country's most beloved actresses. Those of you who have been following her since her early roles in comedies such as Peep Show, though, will have always known she was destined for greatness. Her role in Paddy Considine's 2011 directorial debut, Tyrannosaur, deserves a special mention. The heartbreaking events of Broadchurch's last series left Ellie's life in tatters so her character's continuing arc is one of the most anticipated aspects of the new series. Every leading woman needs a leading man, though, and Ellie's is one that needs no introduction...
