Since the brothers' first appearance in 1996, fans clamored to see a duel between Sandor "The Hound" and Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane, which they nicknamed "Cleganebowl." The brothers had a bitter rivalry ever since Gregor shoved Sandor face first into fire when they were younger, so seeing them cross blades would certainly lead to an epic showdown.

The clash finally comes in the fifth episode of the season, The Bells. As Drogon lays waste to King's Landing, Sandor, ready to die, finds and challenges Gregor to a duel. The fight is epic, with Sandor giving everything he has to each strike while Gregor barely flinches.

The fight ends with the perfect conclusion to Sandor's character arc. He realizes the only way he can win is by shoving Gregor into the fire below, and in doing so conquering both of his fears. He throws his brother into the flames, jumping down with him, and laughing all the while.

23 years later, Cleganebowl was worth the wait.
