8 Things Game Of Thrones Season 8 Actually Did Well
4. Supporting Characters
Game of Thrones Season 8 definitely had some character issues. All Jon ever said was "I don't want it," Dany's turn-to-evil felt way too quick, Tyrion's intelligence flew out the window, Jaime fell back into his sister's arms without sufficient explanation, and Cersei gets reduced to a plot device with less screen time than a CGI dragon.
However, while most the show's lead characters suffered in such ways, many of the supporting cast, such as the aforementioned Sandor Clegane, have great endings.
For example, Jorah gives his life to save the woman he loves, taking a badass amount of punishment before falling. Theon redeems himself, receiving absolution from nearly every Stark before dying as he stalls the Night King just long enough to save Bran. While Brienne shouldn't have been crying in her pajamas, her arc came to a nice conclusion as well, breaking the iron ceiling as the first ever female knight of the Seven Kingdoms and becoming Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. Sam also finds a fitting seat on the Small Council, as Grand Maester, while helping to record the events of the story. Even Beric Dondarrion gives his life one last time in a meaningful way, to save Arya.
Though not every supporting character's arc ends as satisfyingly as these, with Varys and Missandei notably finding their stories shortchanged, a vast majority of the more minor roles end up with better endings than the leads'.
