The show's staggering history has seen a constant shifting of cast and crew. While for many shows, losing the lead actor would be a death knell, for Doctor Who, it always seems to have been the opposite.

Fans have long since become accustomed to the process: first, the difficult goodbye to a beloved actor, then the excitement at the prospect of a new Doctor, usually followed by disappointment during the adjustment period, and finally acceptance before it begins all over again.

This is exactly the reason fans never stop loving the show. Even when things seem to have grown stale or uninteresting, the knowledge that soon a new actor will take the lead is often enough to keep us going, and the fact that each episode has a different director and writer only furthers the perpetual hopefulness of the show's fans.

Although the most recent incarnation of the Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker, has seen the largest decline in the show's viewership to date, there's an entire subsection of the fanbase just waiting for the announcement of her impending regeneration, and that's something entirely unique to Doctor Who.
