8 Things Non-Fans Don't Understand About Doctor Who
3. Why Bow Ties Are (And Always Will Be) Cool
Most fans have been in this particular situation at some point or another.
Seeing someone with a bow tie and having to fight off the urge to remark on its coolness for risk of sounding creepy is a constant struggle for many of us, and it's something we owe to Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor.
Starting with his very first episode, in which he finds the bow tie inside a hospital, the Eleventh Doctor was rarely seen without his trademark accessory, and his regular insistence that "bow ties are cool" become something of a catchphrase during Smith's tenure on the show.
While bow ties themselves can undoubtedly be cool, there's no denying that the Doctor's time spent wearing one was possibly the neck accessory's finest hour, although trying to explain all of that to someone less versed in the Whoniverse will almost certainly result in a puzzled look as they slowly back away from you.
