8 Things Popular TV Shows Need To Get Right In 2016

2. American Horror Story: Hotel Needs To Stop Trying To Be Edgy

How far American Horror Story has come. When it first began, the show was a legitimate horror series with interesting (yet relatable) characters, strong plotting and genuinely creepy scenarios. At this point it has literally devolved into people being raped with drill-based dildos. Yeah, €œshocking€. Before it aired, many hoped that American Horror Story: Hotel would return to the show's roots, the kind of story told in Murder House or Asylum. The departure of Jessica Lange and the appearance of Lady Gaga (in terms of faux-shock, I suppose this was something of a red flag) prompted many to speculate the show was going to strip everything back a bit, but nothing could be further from the truth. At this point, Hotel is pretty far gone, but it might still be salvageable. The rest of the season is set to air in 2016, and needs to make some serious changes. For a start, stop trying to be shocking. Seriously, whereas the show used to earn its gruesome scenes, they're now wheeled out in an attempt to try and be edgy. Secondly, tie everything up well. If the season is to be redeemed even a little bit, it needs to start answering questions, like who is actually still alive, and more about the mystery of Room 64. Oh, and do we really need to keep introducing new characters? With so little of the season left, it's time to start wrapping up the character arcs already established rather than introducing even more.
