8 Times American Horror Story Went Too Far

5. Rally Shooting - Cult

Cult has many American Horror Story fans split on whether or not it was a good season. Many people who enjoyed the season did so because of its real-life parallels to the anxiety experienced by many Americans during the 2016 elections that saw Donald Trump inaugurated as President.

Following a cult-like figure played by Evan Peters who gains control of his followers through tactics of coercion and fear, the season as a whole succeeds in portraying the ease at which a tyrant with worrying ideologies can in fact rise to power.

However, one of the moments that was so controversial to the point where it was actually cut from episode six before airing, is the shooting carried out by Sarah Paulson's character at a political rally. Coming at a time that would have hurt its fans rather than be entertaining due to the very recent Las Vegas mass shooting, this particular topic - and more specifically its harrowingly realistic nature - meant that it would have, at the very least, been extremely disrespectful to the families of those who lost individuals in the attack.

For this reason, Cult knocks a couple of gold stars off of itself as a season for hitting a bit too close to home.
