8 TV Character Changes That Worked Perfectly
4. Community - Britta Perry
Community celebrated tropes, character archetypes and cliches just as much as it enjoyed making fun of them. And as Dan Harmon's series put together and then pulled apart the stereotypes of sitcom characters, one of the most interesting elements he put forward early on was how to present one of the female leads of his show.
At the beginning Britta came across as the "big sister" of the group; sacrificial, wise and protective of the other members of the Study Group, Britta countered Jeff Winger's exploitative efforts at every turn. She was witty, charming, kind, and was close to being the only self-aware character in the Study Group.
But the cracks started to show close to the end of the first season, and by the time the second season rolled by, Britta's faux-activism and idiocies spat out the cliches of the cool girl she first came across as.
Britta grew as the personification of slacktivism; desperate to call herself righteous for whatever reason, and while this made her "the worst", it also feed her dynamic with the other characters one of the more comedic set pieces within the series.
