8 TV Heroes You Didn't Realise Probably Died Horrible Deaths

5. Troy Barnes - Community

Community Troy Pirates
NBC

Troy, played by Donald Glover, was a huge part of Community's success across its formative years but, with Glover's reputation growing and a desire to further pursue his musical career as Childish Gambino, he decided to leave the show, with his exist coming in Season 5.

This being Community, of course, it couldn't just be something straightforward like leaving college or moving elsewhere. Coming after Pierce's death, Troy finds he has inherited all of his shares in Hawthorne Wipes, worth over $14m. The only catch is that to inherit the money, he has to accept the challenge of sailing around the world - which he obviously does.

Troy sets off on Pierce's vessel The Childish Tycoon, alongside celebrity LeVar Burton, and that's the last we ever see of him. Later, however, an easy-to-miss news ticker reveals that Burton and his "non-celebrity companion" have been captured by pirates in the Gulf of Mexico, meaning Troy was indeed captured by these pirates.

Creator Dan Harmon had previously hinted that we might see Troy return in the long-mooted Community movie but, given that's unlikely to happen, then Troy's fate is more likely to have been killed by the pirates, or left in the middle of the ocean, where he'd either drown, starve, or die of hypothermia. Troy and Abed in the mourning, then.
