8 TV Heroes You Didn't Realise Probably Died Horrible Deaths

4. Wesley & Gunn - Angel

Angel's fifth season finale was never supposed to be its series finale, with Joss Whedon having plans for a Season 6 that wouldn't come to fruition because of the show getting cancelled. Thankfully, Not Fade Away does still work as an ending because, although it's a cliffhanger, it fits thematically with the idea that Angel will always keep on fighting against the forces of darkness to protect the innocent.

Whedon, however, didn't let the cancellation end things for good. Like with Buffy, Angel lived on in comic form, and Angel: After The Fall reveals what happened in the wake of the finale. Given that the majority of viewers, however, likely didn't go on to read the comics, the TV show is where their story ended for most, but, well, it gets pretty grim for some of the heroes.

While Gunn is alive and fighting in the finale, it's revealed that not long afterwards he was turned into a vampire, which we can assume wasn't exactly a pleasant experience. He then started capturing victims under the pretence he was rescuing them. Wesley, however, had it even worse. While we DID see him dying in the finale, it's even more horrible than we knew.

He doesn't just get to die, but remains contractually bound to Wolfram & Hart. When they transport Los Angeles to Hell as retribution for Angel's actions - another thing that actually happens in the comics - he remains as the last link to the Senior Partners, unable to ever move on.
