8 TV Shows We Already Know Are Coming To An End In 2014
5. Californication
Is It A Good Thing The Show Is Ending? Yep. End Times: Summertime The general reaction to hearing that Showtime's Californication would be ending after its seventh season in 2014 was, "Wait, that show is still on?" David Duchovny's sex addict antihero Hank Moody has lasted longer than anyone thought he would (and most people thought he should), so you can understand the show's desire to run a victory lap. Like True Blood, the show's primary draw to get audiences excited was its sex appeal, but as the show has gone on it has gotten increasingly ridiculous that an ageing screenwriter continues to have dalliances with young women. Furthermore, the character's battle with his own self-hatred has mirrored that of Hugh Laurie's House; it was fun for the first few years, but eventually we just expect these enigmatic narcissists to get over themselves. The final season hasn't aired yet, and maybe guest turns by Heather Graham, the great Mary Lynn Rajskub and Michael Imperioli will pick up the slack in the show and give fans of the show a satisfying conclusion. Maybe the show's continued decline has simply been matching their protagonist's own spiral into despair, and this year he will finally break out and recognize his true potential. And if not, at least the show will be over come 2015.
