8 TV Shows We Already Know Are Coming To An End In 2014

6. Wilfred

Is It A Good Thing The Show Is Ending? Maybe. End Times: Summer For a long time Wilfred was a show where the premise was funnier than the execution. The United States remake of Jason Gann's "human in a dog costume playing a dog" Australian comedy series sometimes lacked substance outside its absurd premise. But the show has grown in quality over time, and the most recent episodes (in season three) were perhaps the best this show had to offer. By and large, Wilfred was doomed by the insanely high quality of its consistent time-slot partner Louie. Every time audiences were treated to the fine wine that is Louie C.K's tremendous show, jokes about a pot-smoking dog felt like a bad aftertaste. But Wilfred will air without Louie this season, and not having that 245 pound man made out of pure comedic gold on their back will free the show and allow it to find its own audience. But I don't think that more of the same will suit the Elijah Wood-led comedy well. Frankly, his character's lack of motivation outside of spending time with Wilfred has limited the show, and more interaction with people not in a six-foot tall dog suit would probably do the show some good. I'm not saying that the show needs to distance itself from the absurdity of its premise, it just needs to find more balance in its off-kilter plotting. Wilfred has always lived between highbrow dark comedy and lowbrow jokes about how dogs smell, and knowing the show is coming to an end can push that premise into full ridiculousness and make for supremely entertaining television. Well, a man can dream, right?
