8 TV Shows We Already Know Are Coming To An End In 2014

2. How I Met Your Mother

Is It A Good Thing The Show Is Ending? Yes End Times: March 31 How I Met Your Mother has a premise with the endpoint in its title: Ted is going to meet the kids' mother. In the flash-forwards already seen on the show, it appears that Ted and the future mother really are going to make it. Speaking for even HIMYM's most loyal fans, it's about time. Eight seasons before the mother was even introduced, and nine seasons before Ted meets her. The creative timeline for this season (all of the episodes occurring over Robin and Barney's wedding weekend) was interesting at first but has dragged down the formerly swiftly-paced show. It's hard to keep a show running on all cylinders when you know the writers are literally biding their time until the climactic wedding. Marshall was apart from the group for too long (and his driving companion wasn't particularly funny), Ted's "momentous" decision to move to Chicago has been dulled by the laboured pacing of the weekend, and it seems like Robin and Barney have a new crisis that threatens their wedding every single hour. If HIMYM was a movie, it would be a fairly straightforward romantic comedy. Sure, Ted occupies the role customarily given to the love-obsessed female, but aside from that it has all of the generic trappings. What makes a good romantic comedy is the chemistry between the two primary love interests. We have seen that Ted and the mother do have chemistry in their brief scenes together, and prolonging their meeting is only distancing the audience from what people enjoy watching when they sit down in front of the screen. The gang deserves a happy ending, but a happy ending that is also fondly remembered by the fans of the show.
