8 TV Shows That Just Wouldn't Die
4. 24
While many shows have to fight off cancellation or overcome key departures, 24 had the opposite problem, in that it was so successful Fox wanted - and indeed still want - to make more of it in any way possible.
The Keifer Sutherland vehicle originally ran for eight seasons, by which point it was starting to stretch its premise, before the producers and Sutherland himself decided the time was right to call it a day.
Except, of course, it wasn't. Not long after its finale in 2010, plans for a feature film (which had originally surfaced during the hiatus between Seasons 6 and 7) were revived, but after a couple of years in development, instead became the limited series 24: Live Another Day.
That, again, was seemingly the end, before Fox last year brought things back again, albeit with a mostly different cast, for spin-off series 24: Legacy. Its poor performance led to it being cancelled after just one season, but still the spectre of Jack Bauer lives on. It was revealed earlier this year that there are now plans for a prequel series about the character, bringing back the original creators, and Sutherland himself remains open to returning to the character one day.
