Family Guy is now one of the longest-running animated sitcoms of all-time, a global brand, and a seemingly permanent fixture in Fox's comedy line-up, but it wasn't always the case.

The network cancelled the show after just two seasons back in 2000, but then reversed that decision to give it a 'final' run of 13 episodes, before it ended again after Season 3.

Like with Futurama the show was picked-up for reruns by Adult Swim, and that revived interest and a boost in DVD sales led to Fox bringing the show back once more, with Season 4 beginning in 2005. Despite being dogged by controversy and multiple lawsuits, it's stayed there ever since, with its 17th season set to begin soon and the series showing no signs of stopping anytime in the foreseeable future.
