Heroes is yet another example of a show that started out great but quickly went down hill. The first season was received incredibly well, with it even making it onto various "top ten shows of the year" lists. Unfortunately, however, it soon became apparent that the writers didn't have much confidence in their vision.

According to some of the show's producers, early on fan opinion became extremely important, with several major decisions made based on whether or not it would please fans. Examples of such decisions include the death of Simone and the survival of Sylar.

After negative reaction to season two, the decision was made to attempt to write out as many season two characters as possible for season three, and to up the complexity of the plot to ludicrous levels in response to fan criticism that there weren't enough twists in season two. In the end, the show became a mess compared to what it started out as, and any new elements introduced were soon purged to try and please fans.
