Of all the ways you can provoke a Whovian, this is probably one of the worst, yet most simple, roots to take, and if you're looking for a way to really test their limits, this one is pretty much guaranteed. As one of the most simple but universally ignored pieces of television trivia of all time, and contrary to popular belief, the central character of Doctor Who doesn't go by that name at all. In fact, the beloved Time Lord is known simply as... wait for it... 'the Doctor'. There. Not too difficult, is it? This is where it gets complicated, though, because 'the Doctor' isn't his real name either. His actual alias remains unknown and there's only a select few who actually know his true identity. For now, 'the Doctor' is the title he's chosen for himself, so by all accounts choosing to refer to him as anything else is rather rude and, ultimately, just plain ignorant. The producers of the show haven't helped matters. In several Classic Series episodes the titular Time Lord was directly referred to as 'Doctor Who', and Christopher Eccleston was credited as such when the show returned to our screens in 2005. Such momentary lapses can be ignored though, as the fact of the matter remains that Doctor Who refers only to the title of the show itself, although in recent years it has been established within the programme's narrative as being the oldest question in the universe. But that's a completely different story. What do you think of the list? Have you found other ways to tick off a Doctor Who fan? Are you a Whovian yourself with your own pet peeves?
