After the sacking of King’s Landing, Jon cannot bring himself to be around the new Queen of the seven kingdoms, but has promised her his support and refuses to challenge her.

He finds a solution to this by returning to live north of the what’s left of the Wall, abdicating all responsibility for the warmer lands. As he crosses the remains of Castle Black to join Tormund and the other free folk, Ghost pads silently to his side to join him.

Jon’s final act down south is to beg for the life of his friend, Tyrion Lannister, imprisoned by the Queen and due to face Targaryen justice: the Imp, weary of politics, returns to Casterly Rock, a fugitive Bronn accompanying him, freshly shaven and disguised as a septon. Davos Seaworth reluctantly becomes the Hand of the Queen; his wife Marya is thrilled, however.

Sansa is formally named Lady of Winterfell, but is already plotting against Daenerys; Arya remains at her side, her silent shadow and protector, as do Ser Brienne and the recently knighted Ser Podrick Payne.

And Bran Stark, the Three-Eyed Raven, turns his gaze far south, past the ruins of King’s Landing, to the seared sands of Dorne, where the Dawn King has arisen and begun raising an army of fire wights. Summer is coming...
