9 Famous TV Villains You Didn't Realise Were Complete Morons

6. Charles Augustus Magnussen (Sherlock)

I know what you are saying, why the heck is he on the list? He was able trick Sherlock into thinking that there were actual physical vaults of information underground; information he used to blackmail people all across the world, including Waston's actually incredibly dangerous wife. Based on the belief of actual vaults and hard-copy information, Sherlock handed over state secrets, counting on the fact that he would be able to give the authorities Magnussen's vaults. Magnussen would go to prison and all secrets, state and personal would be safe. The only problem with that plan was that the vaults did not physically exist. Sherlock would be facing a long jail sentence. It's a pretty smart, albeit elaborate trap, but dumb in the fact that there is absolutely no reason for it. Frankly, it doesn't make sense that he went after Sherlock to get Mycroft in his pocket since he was already under Mycroft's "protection." If he made the elaborate trap to get Watson in his pocket, that's more problematic in that he already had Watson once he figured out the identity of Mary, his wife. He couldn't have done it to get Sherlock off his back either, because Sherlock never really had a chance of proving Magnussen as the disgusting manipulator he was because all the information was in a mind palace. So what was the trap for? Let me know in the comments. Seriously.
