Serial horror has always been a big, scary staple of the small screen. Whether its an anthology that runs week to week like The Twilight Zone's interdimensional world of weirdness, or an ongoing hellscape that constantly pits characters against their worst fears like The Walking Dead, there's a brand of horror for everyone on TV in disgusting, bite-sized chunks.

And with a whole medium that features hundreds of hours of terrifying tales playing out, there's more than a fair share of mind-blowing trivia bubbling away under the surface.

If you want something to whet your appetite: Judge Judy is the highest paid TV host in the world. American children have seen roughly 11,000 murders on TV before they hit 14. People that grow up watching black and white TV often dream in monochrome. This is fun, right? And there's even more weird and wonderful factoids lurking in late-night horror slots, too.

Innovative filming methods, sneaky easter egg additions, and show-transforming decisions happening at the last minute are all part and parcel of the industry, so let's take a look at some of the most surprising ones lurking at the back of the TV set. At least they make for interesting pub quiz answers if nothing else...

9. Gillian Anderson Is The Real Believer In The X-Files

Another larger than life entry into the television canon, the X-Files spans an enormous 11 seasons, and comes with its far shares of truths out there to be discovered. The ongoing investigations of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully into all things extraterrestrial saw one the former as a believer and the latter as a scientific realist, but in reality, these roles were definitively reversed.

David Duchovy said himself in an interview with RadioTimes: "There were stories that people would tell me about being abducted. They would just make me sad. I thought that these people had issues that they had to deal with." He followed up with "So the answer is: no and never!” as his quick retort of being a believer in aliens or not.

Gillian Anderson, on the other hand, is far more open to the idea, in a total opposite to her character in the show. She's stated numerous times that she does believe in aliens, questioned relentlessly over the years for her closeness to the subject. To be honest, it's probably just easier to say 'yes' by now to shake reporters off, really.
