7. Engineering Announcements
Engineering Announcements was a weekly transmission aimed at those working within the broadcasting industry. It ran from 1970-1990 and covered such events as the invention of NICAM stereo and the development of satellite television. It also covered which transmitters were down and it announced new transmitters. Engineering Announcements is an example of ghost programming - it was never mentioned in TV schedules. It had a happy home every Monday morning on ITV for years until the development of TV AM when it was turfed over to the fledgling Channel 4. It was screened regularly in the mornings but as Channel 4's programme output grew it got squished into the early morning at 5.45am. Broadcast for the last time on 31st July 1990 with a retrospective show, we bade a fond farewell to Engineering Announcements (well about 15 of us).
