9 Nerdy TV Events That Have Vanished Off Our Screens

4. Children's School Programmes

living tv Their hey day was in the 1970s and 1980s, although they have been with us since the 1950s. Children's educational programmes, as I remember them, were broadcast on BBC 2 in the morning as well as ITV, but the development of morning entertainment shunted the programming off to Channel 4 where it had a happy home until it died off. The VCR was really the death of the children's educational programme. BBC 2 actually still produces children's educational stuff but broadcasts it at 3 am. Oh well, it can be SKY plussed. When I was a child, I used to love to stay off school and watch all the programmes on Channel 4 and BBC 2. Below are some of the best: Living and Growing: Sex Education! Puberty explained in a no nonsense fashion with exciting diagrams to make young eyes goggle. Words and Pictures: English programme with Charlie, a naughty 2D cartoon guy who turned up for vaguely anarchic goings on. How We Used to Live: This program managed to make history interesting through showing families living in different periods of time. There are a whole ton more of educational programmes. Please list your favourites below.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
