9 Reasons Why We Love New Girl's Nick Miller

3. His Fancyman Fixation

It€™s rare that Nick demonstrates the guile or desire to make something memorable out of his life. Indeed, when he does indulge in a little extra effort, it€™s usually to earn the affections of beautiful women, but there was a brief period when he altered his modus operandi and it was all down to another man; Jess€™ one-time boyfriend, Russell. Labelled €˜Fancyman€™ by the loft, Nick becomes smitten with the wealthy Russell€™s way of life; his clothes, his picturesque house, his pristine wooden desk, his laissez-faire giving away of expensive smartphones. It€™s an adoration that transcends his vehement hatred for the upper classes, their decadence and affiliation to the system, disrupting his extremely convincing uber-Marxist leanings. After occupying Russell€™s office for less than five minutes, he claims to understand the motives behind hunting and feels a heightening of his own sexual capabilities. The scene where he attempts to rescue Jess from Fancyman€™s pond ranks amongst the finest in the New Girl canon, his removing of the sweater given to him by Russell (with strict instructions to €˜fold not hang') before continuing his mission is absolutely hilarious. We are also offered a gleeful glimpse into how a money-backed Nick would conduct his affairs. Sitting behind Russell€™s desk, he barks orders down a telephone: €œIt€™s President Miller of Earth. I€™d like to speak to the Galactic Emperor...yeah it€™s about the money.€ Please somebody make this happen.
