7. … Which Could Open Doors For Other Familiar Faces
Thankfully, executive producer Bryan Fuller seems well aware of the need to balance fan-pleasing familiarity with exciting new stuff. He told The Hollywood Reporter recently that the aim of Discovery season 1 is to introduce a new crew, "reimagining a lot of Star Trek elements" in the process.
After that, Fuller et al will "be looking in the second season to open it up to more familiar characters and how they could feed into the weave". But first and foremost, in season 1, they want to "establish the greatness of the [new] characters that are going to be introduced."
Give it a few seasons, and maybe they could add George Kirk, Amanda Grayson and more into the mix without overshadowing the new characters. There's also nothing ruling out returns for the surviving characters from the Enterprise TV series. Discovery, if it runs for long enough, could have all sorts of fun playing with the original timeline.
